Testing

To evaluate the professional expertise of the candidate, a comprehensive examination dealing with several areas of landwork is utilized. Extensive landwork knowledge and experience is required to pass the CPL examination; however, it is not expected that a landman be an expert in every area. The RPL examination is similar to the CPL examination but less comprehensive. The RL exam consists of a take home study guide and exam.

Examination

Upon application approval, RPLs and CPLs have one year to take the intiial exam.

Effective Oct. 8, 2021, all initial RPL and CPL exams are scheduled through Meazure Learning Testing Centers (formerly Scantron).

Register for the AAPL RPL/CPL Certification Exam upon application approval and after you have received a Notice To Test (NTS) from Meazure Learning.

Meazure Learning has more than 100 testing centers around the United States, providing candidates with more flexibility when scheduling their AAPL certification exams. Meazure Learning will email approved candidates a Notice To Schedule (NTS), which will include a unique Username/Password and scheduling instructions. Please make sure to save the NTS email, as AAPL is unable to access your Meazure Learning Username/Password. We recommend checking your email settings to ensure the email (candidatesupport@meazurelearning.com) is not in your junk or spam folder.

With the Meazure Learning acquisition of Scantron, candidates may see communications from Scantron, Meazure Learning and ProctorU during this transition period; however, this is one organization.

Once a candidate is registered to test, the exam date and time are reserved, and instructions will be sent to you regarding arrival time, what to bring and other important information. Also included is information regarding an online tutorial for candidates to familiarize themselves with Meazure Learning's online test delivery system before the scheduled test date. Live Remote Proctoring

AAPL has teamed up with Meazure Learning (formerly Scantron) and ProctorU to launch Live Remote Proctoring to approved certification candidates. LRP allows approved candidates to complete the examination from their own computer via an internet connection at a time and place of their choosing. Testing sessions are available 365/24/7. The candidate’s computer must have webcam capability and speakers, and the environment should be quiet to avoid distractions and to ensure that the remote proctor can hear everything at the candidate’s location. There also are technical requirements, such as an adequate internet connection, to ensure the proctor has access to the candidate’s computer and the session can proceed without internet disruption. Candidates are informed of the computer specifications in advance of the testing session. If your computer does not meet the requirements for LRP, you will be able to schedule the computer-based exam at a Meazure Learning Test Site.
