Firearm Registration Forms
North Carolina does not designate that residents must formally register a firearm once obtained. In order to buy a gun, an individual will be required to gain access to a Pistol Purchase Permit beforehand. The state law doesn’t stipulate any required licensure for open carry of a long gun (except in certain cities), although, carrying a handgun openly or concealed will necessitate applying for a Concealed Handgun License. To apply, visit your county sheriff’s office with the following gathered materials:
- A filled-out North Carolina Application for Permit to Purchase a Handgun (Form SBI-CHP-5-16)
- Evidence of fulfillment of a hunter safety course from one of the listed accepted instructors.
- Two original fingerprint identification cards
- An up-to-date driver’s license or ID with the correct address
- Proof of citizenship or naturalization via a U.S. Passport, naturalization papers, green card, or another evidentiary document.
- Proper funds to compensate for all necessary fees
